What is running pace?

Pace is the time it takes to cover a unit of distance, expressed in minutes per kilometer or mile. It's the most used metric by runners to control and plan workouts and races.

Pace in training

Different paces serve specific functions: easy pace for recovery and aerobic base, tempo for improving lactate threshold, fast intervals for speed. A balanced plan includes variety of paces.

How to improve your pace

Improvement comes from consistency, variety of workouts (long slow, tempo, intervals), adequate rest, and gradual progression. Increase volume or intensity by a maximum of 10% per week.
